ABOUT

The First Workshop on NLP for Indigenous Languages of the Americas (AmericasNLP) will be co-located with the 2021 Annual Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (NAACL-HLT 2021), which is currently scheduled to be held in Mexico City, Mexico, from June 6th to June 11th, 2021. AmericasNLP will take place on June 11th. The goal of the workshop is to encourage and increase the visibility of work on indigenous languages of the Americas. It aims to encourage research on NLP, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics and speech for indigneous languages, to connect researchers and professionals from underrepresented communities and native speakers of endangered languages with the ACL community, and, more generally, to promote machine learning approaches suitable for low-resource languages.

Kyunghyun Cho
Kyunghyun Cho is an associate professor of computer science and data science at New York University and a CIFAR Associate Fellow. He was a research scientist at Facebook AI Research from June 2017 to May 2020 and a postdoctoral fellow at University of Montreal until Summer 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Yoshua Bengio, after receiving PhD and MSc degrees from Aalto University April 2011 and April 2014, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Juha Karhunen, Dr. Tapani Raiko and Dr. Alexander Ilin. He tries his best to find a balance among machine learning, natural language processing, and life, but almost always fails to do so.
Tajëëw Díaz Rob
Tajëëw Díaz Robles @tajeewdr, mixe from Tlahuitoltepec. Part of the @Colmixe collective http://colmix.org She completed a degree in Political Science and Public Administration and a master's degree in Social Anthropology. Her interests and research work have focused mainly on the indigenous normative systems of communities in Oaxaca, community textile identity, plagiarism and its community impact as well as the processes of digital activism of indigenous languages.
Benita Mijarez
Benita Mijarez, is a Wixarika language activist from the communtiy of San Andrés Comiata (Tateikie), in the mexican state of Jalisco. Since more than 10 years she started a teaching project to help urban wixarika kids to learn their language.
