A Method For Reconstructing Climate From Fossil Beetle Assemblages, Alphagalileo & Proc. Biol. Sc. Bookmark and Share

Abstract: (...) it is possible to reconstruct past climate conditions at a specific location from the species found in fossil assemblages at that location. The most common method (...) is called the Mutual Climatic Range method. This method essentially assumes that the probability that a species is present at all locations within its overall climatic range is the same. In fact, the probability that a species is present at a location can vary considerably within its overall range, and knowledge of this variability can be used to improve climate reconstruction. This paper describes and illustrates a simple method for doing so.
