[ Your Name ] would like to inform you about this article on Complexity Digest 2005.48 - 18 http://comdig.unam.mx/index.php?id_issue=2005.48#23188 05/12/01 [ Your Message ] TO OUR READERS: WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK: Complexity Digest was founded in 1999 to promote networking of the complexity community by using the Internet to link to electronic publications related to Complexity. And we may have contributed to its present status where complexity, multi-disciplinary, dynamic studies are accepted parts of any academic field and are used to solve problems....although often with a different lexicon. Are we serving our market...you, the readers? In bringing webcasts to you of meetings we cannot all attend, does that help you? Are we pointing out literature that you want to explore more thoroughly? And most important to those of us who work each week to bring ComDig to you, what should we be doing now to strengthen the Complexity network? You can help by participating in this short survey......thanks. http://www.surveymonkey.com/Users/48763454/Surveys/666681488644/82D2B4E1 Dean and Gottfried This survey information is confidential and will be used in aggregate only. Tropical Forests And The Changing Earth System, Phil. Tran. Biol.Sc. Excerpts: Tropical forests are global epicentres of biodiversity and important modulators of the rate of climate change. Recent research on deforestation rates and ecological changes within intact forests, both areas of recent research and debate, are reviewed (...). Recent impacts have most likely been: (i) a large source of carbon to the atmosphere, and major loss of species, from deforestation and (ii) a large carbon sink within remaining intact forest, accompanied by accelerating forest dynamism and widespread biodiversity changes.
