Excerpts: In her article "in asians and whites, gene expression varies by race"
(News of the Week, 12 Jan., p. 173), J. Couzin explains that recent research has
demonstrated that there is significant variation in gene expression in Asians
and whites, although providing the disclaimer that "[g]enetic variation among
races, long a political hot potato, has also been a scientific puzzle." Indeed,
anthropologists and geneticists alike have been keenly interested in determining
just what makes us different at the genetic level.
