Organizers and Committee
Organising Committee
- Katharina Kann, University of Colorado Boulder, Katharina.Kann@colorado.edu, Katharina Kann is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at CU Boulder. Prior to that, she was a postdoc at New York University, and a PhD student at LMU Munich. Her work is focused on deep learning for natural language processing. More specifically, she is interested in transfer learning, approaches for low-resource languages, and computational morphology. She has co-organized the workshop RepL4NLP in 2019 as well as two shared tasks (CoNLL-SIGMORPHON 2018 and SIGMORPHON 2020).
- Manuel Mager, University of Stuttgart, manuel.mager@ims.uni-stuttgart.de, Manuel Mager is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Stuttgart (Institute for Natural Language Processing), Germany. He graduated in Informatics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and did a Master in Computer Science at the Metropolitan Autonomous University, Mexico (UAM). His work is focused on Natural Language Processing for low resource languages, polysynthetic languages, and code-switching.
- Ivan Vladimir Meza Ruiz, UNAM, ivanvladimir@turing.iimas.unam.mx, Iván Vladimir is a researcher associate at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (IIMAS/UNAM), working in the Department of Computer Science. His work focuses on deep learning for language, speech and sound, machine translation for indigenous languages, among others.
- Graham Neubig, Carnegie Mellon University, gneubig@cs.cmu.edu, Graham Neubig is an associate professor at the Language Technologies Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. His work focuses on natural language processing, specifically multilingual models that work in many different languages, and natural language interfaces that allow humans to communicate with computers in their own language. He publishes regularly in the top venues in natural language processing, machine learning, and has founded or co-organized a number of workshops, such as the Workshop on Neural Generation and Translation.
- Arturo Oncevay, University of Edinburgh, a.oncevay@ed.ac.uk, Arturo Oncevay is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He has been a member of the Artificial Intelligence group at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), where he graduated from Informatics Engineering and studied a Masters in Computer Science. His work focuses on low-resource machine translation and in computational typology for multilingual NLP. He is the organizer of the NLP summer schools in Peru (since 2020), supported by the NAACL-ERF.
- Alexis Palmer, University of North Texas/University of Colorado Boulder, Alexis.Palmer@unt.edu, Alexis Palmer currently is an assistant professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of North Texas, and at the start of January 2021 will move to the Department of Linguistics at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work focuses on computational methods for low-resource and endangered languages, as well as computational semantics and discourse. Most recently, she is working on methods for employing declarative linguistic knowledge for more rapid development of NLP tools for low-resource languages. She is a co-organizer of the ComputEL workshop series, a member of the SemEval organizing committee, and a founding member of ACL’s new SIG for endangered languages, SIGEL.
- Annette Rios, University of Zurich, arios@ifi.uzh.ch, Annette Rios is a postdoc at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She did her PhD on machine translation from Spanish to Southern Quechua. Since then, she has focused on different aspects of machine translation including word sense disambiguation, domain adaptation and zero-shot translation. She is currently also involved with research in automatic text simplification and sign language processing.
